Frankincense-intense

I personally love this product. The frankincense is perfect for mature skin.
'We love the rejuvenating frankincense line from Neal's Yard Remedies. It smells amazing and after a month of wearing it every day skin feels incredible'. Natural Health Beauty Magazine, April 2014.

MALE SKIN CARE

I heard a confession - did you know that most men hate shopping for underwear and skin care?
No me neither. In fact I never gave it a thought. Well underwear is a very personal thing, but I am confident we can help you with the skin care. Add a face scrub to that and he'll remember you every time he uses them.

CLEAN NAILS

Staying with the clean hands theme, clean nail plates are an essential part of nail enhancement success, weather it is nail varnish, gel polish or nail extensions that you are applying. OPI have taken some time to remind us of the importance of cleaning the nail plate and show a few techniques.

TROUBLE SHOOTING NAIL ENHANCEMENTS

HAND WASHING

For some reason everyone thinks their hands are cleaner than anyone else's. I hear it all the time 'it's all right my hands are clean'. The thing is how long do we think are hands are clean for? Every surface we touch has it's own selection of bacteria - that goes for the face touching, thigh itching, head scratching and pole holding people. There are still people that do not cough into a tissue or even their hand, but just sneeze and cough leaving residue everywhere we touch. I could rant on for ever instead here is a small article to remind us to wash our hands before and after everything we do.

ACRYLIC BRUSHES

One of the main tools used in nail enhancement is the brush. A bit like hairdressers and their scissors our brush is everything. If it is not right we'll struggle for a good finish.

There are so many brushes in the industry, how would a new nail technician know which is the best one for them? Unfortunately it can be by trail and error, sometimes by recommendation, but because what suits one nail tech may not suit another it can take some time before we find the right brush for us.

When I did my training in acrylic the brushes were one size - small - we applied 3 small beads of acrylic along the apex, 1 in zone 3 and a couple more on the free edge. Now a days there are a multitude of brush sizes and techniques. What am I talking about?!  It's okay nail technicians will understand - really they will...

Attached is a video about brushes and brush sizes just to give you a taste of the different techniques and brush sizes. I hope this will help you to identify which technique and brush size will work for you.

GALVANIC FACIAL COMPETITION

A galvanic facial - electrotherapy facial!!?! initially it sounded like science fiction then it seemed scary.
Aparently it works with a direct current, constant flow. Nope I still was not getting it¿ Why would someone want a electrical facial?! - that makes two of us wondering, but here I was going to be a model in an electrical facial competition.
The therapists' confidently set up their work areas, with the 'galvanic machine ' metal electrical probs and specialist gels. To the novice it was ominous and intriguing at the same time.
After an in depth consultation which involved removing all jewellery, checking if I had a pace maker or metal implants  [who did she think I was - the bionic woman!?!] I was assured it would not hurt; the most I would feel is a warming sensation.  The first part of the treatment was a great deep cleansing facial and extraction - my pores were singing [maybe breathing for the first time!]
Then the moment came, I was asked to hold a metal probe, which would direct the current through my body to my face where the therapist rolled a probe over my face. This was the moment for specialist the gel which would be forced into the deep layers of my skin, soften lines that I have and help prevent premature lines. Age marks and dis-colouration evened out if not banished.
I wish I had taken a before and after photo. [You'll have to settle for pictures of the contestants set-up instead]
My pores/skin is  refined. The dark shadows that had built up around my eyes have practically gone. My frown lines are not as deep and guess what - I slept through the whole thing it was so relaxing!
Please note The Salon is a training salon for trainee therapist that are working towards their qualifications. If you want to experience this treatment contact:

MASSAGE COMPETITION

The massage competition criteria was 'make it yours!' Not quite a SMART target, but now that I've done it - It proves that maybe sometimes we can think to much for students and block their potential artistic side.

The ranges of setting-up were very different; from candles, flowers and joss sticks too coloured towels and throws.

Although I was to busy concentrating on my own client I did glimpse a therapist with her client standing while she checked the clients posture before allowing the client to lay on the massage table. I have high hopes for her becoming a chiropractor  as her specialist subject, rather than a massage therapist - seriously!

At the end of the day I am sure the main points were given for technique not how your work area looked. Even if it may be part of the criteria how many points would you get for that? Then personal presentation,  professionalism and client care!?!!

As an assessor I wonder what the real criteria was?  Make it your own sounds a bit subjective to me. No uniformity or standardisation.  As contestants we'll just have to depend on their expert eyes and observation...

We won't know till 3rd June.

PROFESSIONAL BEAUTY SHOW

Only a few will know the challenges I faced to attend the show this year.
I was rewarded with meeting old friends & blasts from the past.

I was so thrilled I missed the selfy opportunities of a life time. Norma, Pansy, Hanan  & Julia great seeing you all.
As for the beauty show... My popular brands were no where to be seen. So many more hair stands & shows. I found Aromaworks - they were rushed off their feet, I couldn't  work out if they were disorganised or just busy.

Meanwhile I am still debating the quality of the show as it definately felt more like quantity. Of course these things are subjective rather than objective & perhaps meeting friends took priority this year. Especially as my preferred suppliers were not there...

#Aromaworks

I had the fortune to win a competition to attend an Aromatherapy Factory to see behind the scene's. We had the opportunity to try out the range of products, which were very nice. We were shown around the factory and saw the staff hand packing the products. A small business which is doing big things.
 It was very interesting.

Aromaworks staff packing the products.
Stacy did a great demonstration of the products and showed us around the factory. She is very knowledgeable. Thank you for having us.
