NAILS ON SET

http://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-undateables

Thanks to Mary Russell who had the foresight to commission us to assist in her new project. Hair and beauty students had the opportunity to work on a film set.
Our resident trainee nail technician Lakasha who is completing the Diploma in Nail Technology Enhancement was one of those students .(Lakasha was also at 'Skills London', which I featured last November).
Watch this short clip entitled "Revisit: Mary's Date".I can't express how thrilled I am when they zoom in on Lakasha's handy work of pearlised, oyster coloured nails with pearl details. I for one am most impressed.

CLARITY OF LINES

We are coming up to that time of year. Nail art and nail art competitions. The judges mark the work on;
  • Creativity & Originality
  • Clarity of lines
  • Colour coordination
  • Theme continuity
  • Overall effect
The term 'Clarity of lines' always causes the students concern. I am attaching examples of nail artistry with good clarity of lines. I hope this will make it clear what the judges are looking for. Basically the right colour combination can look great, but the judges want to see that you actually drew the lines with intention, not an accidental splodge of colour.

REMOVAL OF GEL NAILS

This may be a generalisation,  but one of the things that seems to be a problem with the beauty industry is the limited advise about aftercare.
Especially for you peeps with your coloured gels, shellac and overlays.
FYI;
To remove your colour gel the get resources: acetone,  bacofoil, cotton wool, orange stick, nail file, cuticle cream and hand cream.
Saturate cotton wool in acetone.
Place wet cotton wool on nail.
Wrap each nail and cotton wool with foil.
Leave on for half hour.
Remove cotton wool and foil
Shellac/coloured gel should lift off nail plate.
Wash hands and moisturise cuticles. Get a professional manicure ASAP.
I've added a video to go with the above information.

NEW YEAR NEW YOU EVENT

We had our annual New year new you event. The nail tech group did well. In fact so well; I didn't get a chance to take photos of the nail art that they offered on the day! You'll just have to take my word for it - these learners are goood - yes with a triple 'o'!

DIPLOMA IN NAIL TECHNOLOGY ENHANCEMENT

I am the proud tutor of the Level 2 Diploma In Nail Technology Enhancement. This is a rounded well balanced vocational qualification that covers thirteen units, ranging from manicure, nail artistry, make-up, body art, client care to promoting products. The end specialism is nail extensions. The course covers, silk/fibre glass, gel and acrylic overlays. The final nail extension assessment is your choice nail system. This is an intensive 36 week course that requires learners that are doubly passionate about this subject.
Meanwhile there is a certificate in nail technology enhancement designed for those that want a qualification in nail extensions. Learners complete 4 units the usual generic health and safety plus the overlays discussed above. This certificate is a 20 week course that will start this month.
